My greatgrandfather  ran a business and lived in Main Street from
circa 1850 to the early 1900s. Would anyone have any old photographs of
the lower end of Main Street from the entrance to Drumachose Church to
the old railway station? If so I would be delighted to hear from you.

Hi 
I'm trying to do some Family History and have come across a possible great  
and great-great grandfather who hailed from Limavady. I'm looking for any 
detail  that might help me.

Stewart Mitchell was born 28th April 1873 and his father was James Mitchell  
who was a coachman and his address was Isle of Man Newton-limavady. His  
mother was Sarah Moore. 

I have seen the picture of William Street formerly Isle of Man  Street...is 
this the place?

Hi,

I am researching my family tree from Australia and searching or
"surfing" the net for Limavady, I came across this message board and I
thank you for the opportunity to post my message. 

I never knew my Grandfather as he died POW but believed he and his family 
came from Ballymena Co Antrim, however. I have found my grandfather 
Robert Little was born 1885, Main Street Limavady. His father William Little 
married Annie Thompson, Meeting House Lane Limavady. They were married in the
Parish Church Drumnachose.1884. Williams father was Robert (engine
driver) and Annie's father was James (labourer). 

I would be grateful for any additional info.

Hi, 

I am trying to trace my family history, as many of us are. The
family name has altered through the generations, I have been given a
few reasons as to why this happened. 

However, does anyone recognise the following surnames: 
Cain, Kane, O'Cain or O'Kane. 
It could have further spellings. I have traced back to John Kane B 1799 
Limavady, married Sarah McLauchlin B 1805 Limavady. Can anyone point 
me in the right direction to further my research.

Like many people I am trying to find family history from afar. 

My father Samuel Woods Knox was born in Main St. Limavady on 28 
June 1908. His parents were Samuel Ballance Knox and Margaret 
Woods McIlhagga. 

Dad emigrated to Australia in 1925 when he was just 16 years old 
and never returned. I have managed to determine the names of Samuel B's 
parents as William J.Knox and Anna Ballance but have no information 
about my grandmother Margaret. My Dad was not a great talker and I 
suppose like most children I didn't ask enough questions while he was 
alive.

Samuel B is noted on Dad's birth certificate as a factory manager but 
what sort of factory he managed I have no idea. Any information would 
be most appreciated and I much appreciate the opportunity to leave this
message.

My name is Billy Stewart. I live in Canberra, Australia. I have lived here 
since emigrating in 1975. I am now 52 years old. When I was 8, my mother 
Tillie Stewart, my sister Jean, my Uncle Robert and myself were travelling 
in our VW Caravanette through Limavady and decided to stop at the side of 
the road for a "wee cuppa". We needed some fresh water and, as we were near 
this farmhouse, my mother decided to ask the people living there if we could 
have some fresh water to make our tea.

The name of the family was the McIvors and (from memory) the place was 
called (excuse the spelling) Coola Carrie Que. I remember the address well, 
because since that day when the McIvors invited us into their home, and made 
us so welcome, we remained firm friends with them for many, many years.
However, as things usually go, we lost contact a long time ago and I would 
really love to get in contact with any of the family who might still be 
living in the area.

I remember some of the "kids" names... Betty, Derek, Bobby ? It was so long 
ago but I remember myself and Jean having the best time on their farm, 
riding horses and chasing the chooks. Of course, we went back there a couple 
of times after that to visit them, but that was many years ago..
So, anyone who can put me in contact with them can email me at 
roadready@bigpond.com.au I would be very grateful as my mother is still 
living in Scotland and is now 91 years old. Jean is 50 this year.It would be 
a lovely surprise for both of them and myself to hear news from the McIvor 
Family !

Hello,
 
Thank you for this opportunity to leave my message. Like many others
I’m researching my family tree. My Grandfather and some of my Uncles 
where married at Myroe Presbyterian Church.

My grandfather's name was David Taylor and he married
Elizabeth Hunter on 21 Nov 1895. My grandfather was born in
Drumachose about 1875. He was a Journeyman Shoemaker. Sometime
between 1895 and 1897 he moved to Govan Glasgow. I know that some of
his brothers went to Glasgow but subsequently moved back to the
Limavady area. The names that have cropped up for the family are
Crindle. Myroe, Bellarena and Drumachose. 

In October I was fortunate enough to visit Limavady and the Roe Valley 
and it was an experience I will never forget the people were so helpful 
and the area so beautiful. If anyone has any information relating to any 
of my relatives I would be for ever grateful.

During my spell at Limavady Grammar School-circa 1968-1974 there was a
few RAF boys and girls in my class-1-3M -I have often wondered what
happened to them after the RAF pulled out in 1972/73-so if anybody knows
what became of people like-Martin Morris,Nigel Henry,Vernon
Thomas,Tetley Tawl,Davina Boggust and the legendary Jeremy Tetloe-I'd
love to know. And the ones who were not RAF-otherwise known as the
"local ones" not really fussed-unless you owe me money and want to pay
me back

Hi there, 
I have met up with some really fab old friends on friends re united, 
unfortunately I have failed to find 2 guys that I used to hang out with 
in mid high school. I am hoping that someone may read this and know both 
of them, which hopefully will get a little reunion. I am coming 32 so 
both of these lads will be 32 too. They were both at the high school in 
Limavady from the years 1988 to 1992. 

Mark Mclarey wore hearing aids, that may jog some memories, he hung 
around with myself Lizzy Mcilmoyle and an English boy called Phillip Lake, 
plus David Townley. Both Phil and I live in mainland England now and would 
love to know how our old buddies from 2nd year are doing.

hearing any news about both of them.

Hi there!

My great grandmother was Annie O'Brien, born June 1889 in Limavady. She
married a man called Edward Forrest (who we have absolutely no info on) and
in Jan 1918 they had a daughter, my grand mother, called Kathleen (who
eventually married Connell Callaghan and moved to Coventry, England). We
have Kathleen's birth certificate and at the time, Annie and Edward were
living at Kennaught Court and the birth was registered by a Lizzie Magee
from Irish Green Street. We'd love to hear from anyone who can tell us more
about our great grand parents, especially Edward, who we believe died not
long after Kathleen's birth, possibly during the flu epidemic. He was listed
as a labourer and later, a travelling salesman. Conversely, any info on
where to go to track down further information on Limavady inhabitants around
1918 would be gratefully received.

My grandfather was called William Fallace and he married my grandmother 
Matilda Simpson in 1915 at Myroe Presbyterian Church. On their marriage 
cert there is no fathers name for William but on his death cert(he died 
in Scotland)his fater is given as William also and his mother was a Mary 
Milligan. Williams residence was given as Crindle and his occupation was 
Sexton. 

After marriage they lived in the Lodge house at Ardnaragle where my 
mother was born. I have been unable to find any records of Williams birth 
and wonder if his name was correctly spelt on marriage cert. It was spelt 
the same way on death cert. 

I wonder if there are any records of people employed by the churches in 
the past. Was there a church at Crindle in those days or maybe he worked 
as sexton ay Myroe.Any help would be much appreciated

Hi all,

I am sorry to be a bit vague about dates, but the sources of my information
 are all dead.

My Aunt Mary Kate (Mamie) hickey and her Husband Jim Henry moved to Limavady
from Fota, Co. Cork....probably in the 1930's....they had three sons Jock,
Patrick and Michael.

As I said my knowledge is very vague.....I would love to contact anyone
connected or related to the family.

Like most people who start a family history I have left it quite late in
life, and finding living relatives is quite difficult.

My mother, who was the source of my info always said what a beautiful spot
Limavady was, and looking at the photographs on your terrific site I can
only agree.......I hope that someone out there can help.

I am researching the family tree from Australia. Is anyone there related to
the family of William King Ferguson who lived in Catherine Street,Limvardy
in the 1830's. I know he had at least one Son Edward Augustus who was born
in 1838. He came to Australia sometime in the 1860's. I am trying to trace

I live in Victoria, Canada. My mother was Marjorie Boyd, born 1910 in
Montana, U.S.A., but she returned to Limavady area until 1925 when her
family came back to North America. Her parents were John Boyd and Jane
Smyth married in Drumachose Church in 1902. Her paternal grandparents
were John Boyd and Matilda Semple married in 1863 in Bovevagh
Presbyterian Church. Maternal grandparents were Thomas Smyth and
Margaret Louise Hutton. Great grandparents were John Boyd and Elizabeth
Stirling married in Bovevagh in 1827. Matilda Semple's sisters both
married Loughreys so this is another name I am interested in as well as
McLellan, Lane and Williams. I am interested in contacting any
descendants of these families.

My Great Great Grandfather John Ostle was born on 15 October 1844 in
Drumachose to John Ostle and Sarah. Originally his parents were from
Cumbria England. The elder John was a tax inspector and was in the area
for at least three years as a daughter was born in 1847. The baptisms
of both children took place in Brigham in Cumbria in 1847, as was the
tradition (it seems) for the Ostle family. However I wondered if there
is any research aids that would provide some more details of the
families stay in Ireland, perhaps in terms of census, voting records or
anything else.

Any help that can be given would be much appreciated.

I am trying to contact David Harper who started Dungiven Primary School
the same day as I did when we were both 4 years old - a very long time
ago!! At that time he lived opposite me on Station Road, Dungiven. He

I am researching my family tree and I have been told that there is a
possibility that my great great grandparents were married in Limavady.
Their names were Michael McChrystal, (c1827, 28/05/1917) and Elizabeth
Broughton (c1833 - 3/06/1921). Elizabeth's parents were called Ezekiel
Broughton and Isabella Reid. I have also been told that a Hannah
McChrystal got married in Limavady which could be one Michael and
Elizabeth's daughters, as they had a Hannah. Also Anne McChrystal
another daughter was baptised in February 1861 in the Long Tower.
 
 
 Michael McChrystal was in partnership with Robert Elliott in the
 shipping company McChrystall and Elliott. 
 
If anyone has any further information it would be gratefully received.

Lighton(Leighton)/ Ferguson. Elizabeth Wark of Farloe married Thomas
Lighton(Leighton). They had three Children in Tamlaght Finlagan Jean,

I'm looking for a family connection out there. My grandfather, James
Loughrey, was born in Limavady (Carrick East) in 1904. Shortly after he
immigrated to Canada with his parents: James Loughrey Sr. and Anne Jane
Boyd (from Tamlaught Finlagan?). I'm guessing some of the siblings to
James Sr. and Anne stayed in N. Ireland so I probably have some cousins
over there. I know very little about this side of the family, it would
be nice to find any new information.

recognise the name Trainor from The Moyse and or Fawney Cross. Did 
these families have a Patrick known as Packy, 186? - 1918 and a 
Patrick 1900 - 1942 dies as a POW on the Burma Railway Line.

Hi there

I recently found an old book titled 'Alive in the Jungle'. Inside it is
inscribed Limavady Collegiate School awarded to Margaret Oakey for
obtaining passes in French, German, Geometry, Arithmetic and Alegbra
at the Intermediate examinations held in June 1912 Adeline R Cunningham, 
Principal. There is another inscription inside the book -
Margaret Oakey, Catherine Street, Limavady. 

I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of the family or indeed the
school/headmistress.
